Jambican Gardens: Daikon

Our friends Colin and Kumiko grow beautiful veggies at their farm Jambican Studio Gardens in Manotick. These days, they are avoiding markets to keep their inter-generational household safe. So we are giving them a hand, selling their produce at our store on the weekends. We picked our favourite Asian greens and veggies to share with you!

Also known as Japanese radish, daikon is a staple in most Japanese & Chinese households. In Cantonese we call it "Bak Lo Bak" which roughly translates to white carrot. I find it fitting as daikon certainly looks like a huge white carrot with milder and sweeter flavour than most radishes. Slice thin for salads, chop and roast, julienne and stir-fry, add to broth or pickle like carrots, or try my favourite preparation: braise in dashi for the ultimate cold weather pick-me-up. These daikon comes with greens that we love to sautee!

Learn more about Jambican Studio Gardens via their website. Veggies are only available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for now.
