Ginger & Banana Red Bean Marble
For Asian Heritage Month, we asked local bookstores to recommend a book written by an Asian-Canadian or Asian-American author. Our friends at Black Squirrel Books
suggested "Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures" by Vincent Lam. Winner of the Giller Prize, Lam grew up
here in Ottawa!
This book explores the complex dichotomies of life and relationships, in and out of the ER. We were inspired to make a marbled ice cream to express contrasts. The blue hue of one ice cream reminds us of scrubs that doctors wear, as opposed to the white with red dapples that represent the patient. Sharp and spicy ginger represents tumultuous and intense relationships in contrast to sweet and mellow ones that red bean and banana embody.allergens: dairy, banana, red bean
